Hi Michael,
I have 20+ years of work experience in Quality Control in Electronics Mfg industry. I am looking for a job now. Appreciate if you or your contacts could refer anything suitable to me. Appreciate your help.
Dear M
I can't provide any immediate assistance in terms of job opportunities
as I haven't worked in that field for some time.
However, if I were you I would do this
1. Go to the library and ask for a Scotts Industrial Directory
at the Reference Desk.
2. Identify all of the companies that I'm interested in.
3. See if I could ID the QC Managers online or via personal
or association contacts
4. I would try to get through to their voice mails.
Then I would leave a brief, very conversational but well rehearsed script saying my name, my title in such and such a field. (My name is Betty Jones, I'm a Quality Control Manager in the electronics industry).
Then, mention one or two key strengths or achievements. Very briefly. These are my selling points. Why would they hire me, personally, instead of any old QC supervisor?
Then I tell her that I am in the market for a job and would be very interested in speaking with her about that.
5. I would leave three messages over the course of two weeks and email
my resume if I could get the email address.
6. Then I would call back once a month to let the person know
that I am still in the market.
You have to see the voice mail as a mini-interview. The more relaxed, articulate and to the point you sound the more inclined the other person will be to speak with you.
Most people rush through voice mails so quickly that it is hard to make out their phone numbers.
