Sumser Salutes Recruiting Blogs
But offers a number of warnings
Ya gotta love John Buzz Sumser. He's a traditional teacher from the old school, pulling you close with one hand while swatting you away with the other.
Yesterday, he saluted the WWR (World Wide Recruitosphere), celebrating the large number of blogs on his roll (141).
But, I feel like wrestling this morning so I'll tell you right away that Buzz has his numbers wrong. There are not "hundreds of blogs in the recruiting space".
There are a few recruiting blogs which are occasionally updated and a bunch of HR blogs, as well, that occasionally touch upon recruiting issues.
Check the blogs at ERE for recent updates and you'll immediately know I'm right.
Of course, it doesn't take long for Buzz to move onto the attack. And, his first target is the memes.
Just as the jeep and airplane brought AIDS from a little patch of jungle in Africa to infect the whole world, so blogs and RSS feeds broadcast every ridiculous idea far and wide allowing them to gain credibility just because they are mindlessly repeated so many times.
Thank God, however, there are some real thought leaders who don't banter about shop-worn ideas and broadcast old news. Specifically named are Steve College, Colin the Snob, JGo, Snyde Remarks, Czar Manaster and Stone.
All of us should look to them for direction. (And I do.)
But Buzz' other complaints are a bit hard to fathom.
It seems that many poor souls, believing Buzz to be the grandaddy of the WWR, send him emails telling him about their pathetic little postings on a regular basis.
Don't these jerks have any manners, the great man asks. Maybe not. Business doesn't thrive on introversion and these guys have been told time and again to get out there and make contacts.
And, as a matter of fact, the Voice of Recruting.com, Jay-Dee Jason Davis, has acknowledged Buzz for encouraging his early efforts many, many times.
I guess things have changed, however, because Buzz' final offering is aimed at Recruiting.com, itself. One day of news about its purchase leads Buzz to fear corruption by celebrity.
"It's hard to be the news and to make it." he warns. That might be true but, Buzz, we're not talking about Paris Hilton. This news wasn't really that big and, by tomorrow, everything will be business as usual.
Love ya,
Recruiting Animal
