Blogswap Turns Ugly

Naturally it happened on the Recruiting Animal.

KisssThe other day Jay-Dee Jason Davis asked "How have you benefitted from blogging?". Well, I think it's cost me money because I don't blog for my clients or candidates but for my peers in the Recruitosphere and it takes a lot of time. There's mistake number one. But, it's a lot of fun. And, like everyone else, I've met some very interesting people.

And one of those guys, now part of my Smart Offensive, kind of advised me to think twice before I moved ahead with the posting I'd planned for this space. I didn't completely agree. I don't think there's any harm in having a little fun online but apparently a growing number of people are looking over their shoulders at the new Senator McCarthy -- and it's name is Big Sister Goog. And, now she has a little brother called Zoom. Everyone's afraid of getting on the list. Or finding their name in Goog Channnels, the online snitch sheet that will prevent people from hiring you.

So, here's what I'm gonna do. I won't link directly to our little catfight. And, if you have a comment on this page that you want deleted, just ask me. I have deleted some already and will probably delete more. Some people (not folks -- I hate that word) will be offended that I have capitulated to the House of Unprofessional Activities Committee, but c'est la fifi. If people are afraid of getting hurt, I don't want to scare them. And, maybe they're onto something.

But as I said on my famous Blogswap posting (not the banned one, the one about the effect of the internet on our culture) sooner or later every one of us is going to get caught on someone's cell phone camera with his fly open or lounging on a topless beach or merely indulging in a scratch which looks like a pick -- and it's going to end up online.

And if everyone with money to spend is going to knock suppliers and candidates out of the running for appearing in public in awkward poses, they're going to search far and wide for someone to work with. Inotherwords, once everyone's involved, it won't be significant. But, till then... well, I've had requests for deletions recently from three different people, which never happened before.

Why not take down the offending posts too? When Halloween pransker's are misatken for bank robbers in disguise, no amount of candy will sweeten the extortion.

I shall reply on my "unafraid" blog.

Howl Away.

Mr. Sponng. I do not howl. I weep.
