Third Degree Burns

RECRUITOMATIC ON DAVE MENDOZA.

Mendoza_2bAmitai Givertz must think the exposure he'll get on The Recruiting Animal is much better than it is. Because this is his third blogswap posting in one day. He couldn't resist dumping on one more poor guy. Okay, fire away. (But should I prepare for any more?)

Recent new-comer to the recruiting blog bubble Dave Mendoza is no newcomer to those who are otherwise well connected in the space. Not being LinkedIn with Dave Mendoza myself – or am I? – I cannot comment on the man or the myth. What I can say is this: the tactics of effective social networking do not always translate to blogging that well.

For example, “linking” to a “well connected” blogger and then quoting them extensively – like an “endorsement” if you will – rather than posting something “quintessentially you” leaves some who want the stuff that precedes your reputation feeling denied the chance to get know the man behind the myth.

On the other hand, Dave Mendoza may be a clever blogrategist in disguise. Calling his blog “Six Degrees from Dave” will certainly get some search engine action, especially as the new ABC show Six Degrees takes off and Dave gets invited to comment all over the place about the actors’ role in burning social networking into the popular American consciousness.

Perhaps one day Joel Cheesman will be quoting Dave Mendoza at length. Just remember, you saw ABC’s hyperlicious programming first referenced here, OK, you two?

In respect to Dave, I will come up to his honor..

Besides being a stud muffin... Yes he is eye candy.. Dave is really one of the Most upfront people I have met.. What you see is what you get. He is a man of his word.

Dave has worked hard to get the recognition, and I personally do think that he has earned it fair and square. I look forward to reading his posts, and wish him abundent success with his new business..

You Go Dave
Karen

Dave - with all due respect - in the spirit of the Blog Swap where our guest posts are to reflect the host bloggers style and what-have-you, if my post was a “cheap shot” it was not intended in a personal way anymore than the Animals' “cheap shots” are meant to offend anyone when he pokes fun at them. At least that is what he tells me. So, if I caused you any distress, forgive me.

On the other hand, your extensive comment in reply states an alternate point of view which validates the purpose of the original posting, in my mind at least. You see, I see blogging as an interactive thing and I’m glad that we are now “engaged”. Certainly beats LinkedIn, doesn’t it? I’m sorry if I picked the wrong example to make a valid point but if the points valid, so be it. I certainly wasn't calling your commitment or schedule into question. That said, I will read your posts much more closely and will certainly comment where the comments do, indeed, belong. I look forward to our both reflecting on this first exchange with a shared smile somewhere down the pike. In the meantime – do you want to get LinkedIn?

Amitai

Actually, Dave, I went to your site and couldn't find your email. Perhaps in true networking style CH will hook us up. As for shots at Shannon, I think you must have completely missed the point. If anyone misread my post I would encourage them to read it again.

As for ideas not slights, I could not agree with you more. That said, thoughts require that we take time to think about things. My posts - here, there or wherever - are an invitation for us all to do just that.

Amitai

Hey you guys, I like fighting but only when there are no hard feelings involved. Unlikely? Maybe. But in the blogosphere maybe not. This is the WWF of business communication. You might get body slammed but it's not as bad as it looks.

I have added Dave Mendoza to my blogroll. He now appears under Cheezhead. In the unlikely event that someone unfamiliar with this bubble should happen on my blog they can click through to either blogger and draw their own conclusions as to what both gentlemen contribute to industry-wide debate, and humanity in general.

Tiffany, I included you on my blogroll once but have since taken you off. Not because I don't think your blog is wonderful - sincerely I think it is - but because my target audience would not be your preferredc reader and I assumed you would want me to be proactive in not sending fluff your way. If you would like me to reinstate you - one day it will be a badge of honor - let me know and I will. You don't have to include me on your blogroll but perhaps we can get LinkedIn? Just a thought.

Last - why is everyone so freaked about spam? Is this blog swapping a complete waste of time? See "I think therefore I Spam":

A waste of time? Hmmm. And I wrote those posts on a Saturday.

Hey Tiffany,
you can't stay mad at this guy.. he really is a sweetheart when you get to know him.. Hey I got to meet Dave in an interesting fashion, said something I shouldn't have, and Dave had the good graces to accept my public apologies..

Since then he has come up to my honor on more than one Occassion.. The guy is a True Bombay.. He is good Salt and earth..

Not to mention the eye candy.. Dang, that's right we are both happily married.

Anyways, I personally give my 2 thumbs up to Dave..

Hey Armitai, I like your Salt too.. You are truly stand up..

Golly. What a day!

Not to take sides, but this needs to be said on the record: I spoke to Dave for the first time last week and found him to be exceptionally bright, well spoken, and above all -- sincere.

Michael in copy, you should delete this string before it gets archived in Google or (much more formidably) in ZoomInfo.

Harry, everyone here is nice. Isn't it so? Can't we have some fun without ZoomInfo peering over our shoulders like the dreaded House of UnAmerican Activities Committee?

You're right, Dave seems like a nice guy. So's Ami from Miami. I like Tiffy and Karen too. But is there a hush falling over the blogosphere for fear of El Goog and Zoom?

Listen people! (I love it when people say that; it's so square) Has humour fled the Recruitosphere, a mere week after I told John Sumser it hasn't? We need to debate this online and petition someone to bring it back.

Pretty soon I won't be using anyone's name anymore when I write a posting. I'll be saying "a certain someone who was last seen writing about the trials and tribulations of Generation Y has now been blah blah blah blah". Then everyone will start playing pin the tail on the donkey. For the luvva Mike is business blogging headed toward a new Puritanism as a result of Big Sister Search engine? Somebody answer me, please!
