Do all generations want the same thing?
A Watson Wyatt report claims that all employees want the same things no matter what their ages.
Here are the leading drivers of employee engagement:
1. Confidence in long-term corporate success
2. Reward programs
3. Frequent, clear two-way communication.
Conclusion: "Widely held beliefs about generational differences in the workplace may lead organizations to develop programs that can actually diminish employee engagement.”

Is anyone really surprised? I think it's just the so called 'experts" who make this complicated. Most people just want intersting work, a fair wage and to be treated with decency.

The hoax (as you call it) sounds like "marketing to the gullible 101."
To be told what you are experiencing is unique and special, more noble and more complex than anyone in history, suggests you are probably unique and special, more noble and more complex than anyone in history. That kind of flattery will sell a lot of snake oil.
