How to relate to Gen Y

Huggies and Love Sandwiches.

If I'm reading its exponents correctly, The Gen Y likes to be emotionally pampered. So, I’m working on pointing out complimentary things but sometimes it's better to express thoughtfulness without words. So, I'm doing more back rubbing and hugging, as well.

Sometimes, for instance, we all crowd together in one big hug and yell, "Love sandwich!" And, I'm trying to hold my hugs for a longer time, too.

Research shows that if we hold a hug for at least six seconds, we optimize the flow of mood-boosting chemicals. Frequent huggers have lower blood pressure and higher levels of oxytocin, a chemical that promotes bonding.

At the same time, I’m trying to stop eye-rolling and groaning when someone makes a mistake. When I start to make an exasperated sound I catch myself and pretend that I am merely clearing my throat.
