NOTE: This is the intro to my show from Jan 20, 2010. The phone I was using only registered my voice clearly when it was pointed directly at my mouth - and that wasn't very often. For those who wondered what I was saying, here is the text.
IT'S been a really odd week for me. So full of contention. I was being totally harrassed by people with little minds and I want to tell you about it, not because I'm vain, but because I believe there's something everyone can learn from my life in social media.
Battle Number One
The first attack on me came from a completely unexpected source. I got a message that said someone named @theresumechick was mad at me.And you know why she was mad? Because she said I stole her name. I said: "I stole her name? I NEVER HEARD OF HER!"
Now, I did give the name Resume Chicks to my resume-writing friends; I'm not denying it. But I never heard of this chick and I don't know anybody else who has either
And its pretty obvious that she's not very internet savvy because, first of all, when you get a name, you want to get resumechick period and you only pick theresumechick when you cant get the simple version.
Secondly, if you're serious about the name, you have to grab the related names. So if you want to be the only ResumeChick you have to get ResumeChicks too.
Bush Sucks
When George Bush ran for president, his team bought up bushsucks and every other nasty bush name you can think of to make sure no one else could get them. So, resumechick, you lose! But not because of me. Next time you get angry, go look in the mirror!
Now, on to number two
I like critiquing Twitter bios. I see it as a free consulting service to newcomers. But some people can't handle it. They don't like to be criticized. But, they can't really complain in public about some little thing because it makes them look petty. So they needle me about it but their anger is never really satisfied.
So this week, a young woman invited me to critique a posting on her blog and, like a friend, I did. But when one of my other online friends who doesn't like my style saw it he said "Halleluyah! This is my chance to get The Animal. I can air all my own grievances and pretend I'm doing it on behalf of this girl!"
And he came out swinging, calling me all kinds of nasty names.
Well, I'm not here to hurt anybody, so I emailed this girl right away and said, "Look if I hurt your feelings, just delete my comment. But if our friend isn't speaking for you, you should make that clear."
Well she had a problem understanding that and when I finally got a clear statement out of her she went nuts and said, "I don't want to deal with you anymore anyway." "Okay," I said,"Go deal with @theresumechick and see how far that gets you!"
At this very moment, I'm making @theresumechick more popular than she's ever been in her life!
Another Victim
Now, I'm not the only guy in social media who has to take a beating sometimes. This week my, good friend Danny Schwabel, the boy brander, put out a posting on Twitter that said if you want to have a successful social media profile, you have to be as committed to your brand as you are to your husband or wife.
Well that sent the married people howling. But, really, you don't get to be a Bill Boorman or a Maren Hogan without taking your social media very seriously. Gary Vaynerchuk told me directly, on Jason Alba's show, that to rise to his current stature he spent 14 hours a day on social media.
Well, Dan got slaughtered for saying that and he finally caved in and said he was only using a little hyperbole to send the message home. But I want to tell my enemies, I'm no Danny Schwabel. You want to fight? Come and get me. Cause I'm right here, right now on Jerry Jerry, can you remind me, what show is this?

Hey, it isn't all about you Animal. It is about people feeling vulnerable. They are trying to scrounge up money, build a name, find a job and it is all taking them longer than they want and they are panicking. You are doing your part to help them, but they don't see it that way.
Keep doing what you're doing, most of us appreciate your honest, candid and often un-asked for advice. Thin skin won't work today!

That girl, theresumechick was just looking for free publicity, and you gave it to her. Her service is a scam. She charges $50 to copy/paste your information into a resume with another format, and then ignores any further emails from you.
Do not fall for theresumechick scam. Google that phrase and see comments from many other people who she's ripped off.
If you're in doubt, do not use her scam services
