On a blog -- as in media in general -- being factual and providing valuable information is not enough to tip something into viral distribution.
You have to be loved but also hated. A controversial post which is equally loved an hated gets 70x the distribution of a mediocre post.
If it's not somewhat controversial, it's not worth sharing.
If you want to see something fascinating, look at OKCupid's latest analysis.
A girl ranked as "pretty" with an avg score of 3.4 from viewers won't get as many messages as an "interesting" girl who also has an avg score of 3.4. Because the interesting girl has some feature (or defect) which some people love and some people hate.
