Pete Mashmore claims that Jobster has turned good old Recruiting.com into an uninspired cliche.
Turning Recruiting.com into the clichéd Digg for Recruiting seems like a wholly uninspired move.... Coming so soon after the relaunch of Jobster.com as MySpace for Jobs...
Pete, Pete, Pete. If the Digg model works, it's only natural that it will be applied to many niches on the net. Recruiting.com has been the first adapter in the Recruitosphere and, undoubtedly, there will be more.
But, aside from that, listen to this. I was having a conversation with Anthony J Meaney the other day and he pointed out that the current format is actually the realization of a vision Jay-Dee Jason Davis had way back when. That's absolutely true and I should know because I used to fight with him about it. And I think it's turned out better than I would have expected.
And let me add one more bit of insider information. At the end of the December 2005, at the Headhunters New Year celebration in Burlington Ontario, Jay-Dee Jason Davis, Anthony J Meaney and I sat around discussing strategies for Recruiting.com. And, I remember that Anthony J was very interested in vastly expanding our role as an aggregator.
My point here is that various forms of this idea have been in many heads (but not mine) for some time now. So even though Recruiting.com is a copy of Digg it is not a thoughtless one. And, here's where I think its strength lies: in grading the submissions. It's more than a live feed because the more dedicated readers act as DJ's who listen to everything and select the best for the hit parade so that busy people get to scan the cream of the crop.
I'm glad Pete has the guts to state his views strongly and clearly because there are probably other ways to go. But I, myself, believe that Recruiting.com in its current format offers a valuable and interesting option to the Recruitosphere. (I'm not saying that it's better than The Recruiting Animal; it's just different).
