As you probably know, there's a hot new movie that just came out and it's called Kick Ass.
It's about ordinary people who adopt super hero identities and go out in the world to fight the bad guys.
I think there was a movie about that before with Ben Stiller but this is another one. And I was thinking that this show, the Recruiting Animal Show, is kind of like the Kick Ass of recruiting world.
We've got the Money Honey, The Rottweiler, the Boy Wonder, Indy Andy, The Menopausal Witch. Everybody's a character and every week we're here fighting for truth, justice and the North American Way.
And one of the ways we kick ass on this show is just by calling a spade a spade.
In fact, these advisors, they tell you everything. How to tell the truth, how to hide the truth and how to suck up. But part of their schtick is to lie about it. They'll admit to number 1, telling the truth, but not number 2 and 3.
But, who are they kidding?, I just read an article about handwritten thank-you notes and it couldn't be more blunt. The author says:
Aren't you more likely to remember that nice salesperson who dropped you a note?
More likely to call him or her again?
Well, this is absolutely mercenary. It's is pure emotional manipulation. And that's not bad. It doesn't mean you don't care about people. But when you're selling something you're not there to care about them. You want other people to like you so they will give you what you want.
And you have to play them the right way to get it. You have to know how to manage people. You don't have to be sincere. You have to be wily and you have to be smart.
And smart people know that goodwill is something you buy. People don't just give it to you unless you're super special and most of us aren't.
But it's funny that most people are willing to say that you have to earn goodwill but they don't like saying they buy it with calculated moves to make you favour them.
Isn't that odd? But I found this quote today from Miri McDonald. And she says.
I remembered something powerful that Ryan Paugh, the community manager at Brazen Careerist said.
He said: If you do things for people in your community they will do the same things for you.
You've got to woo people, just like Casanova. And wooing them is not loving them. It's getting them to love you or to feel obligated to you so they do what you want.
