Introduction: The Recruitosphere Sucks
Hi everyone, it's The Recruiting Animal back with you again today. Now, you know that I struggle every week as hard as I can to educate you, my favourite people, that's right the people who listen to this show, The Recruiting Masses. And today, friends, I want to teach you something about community. Because, in my opinion, our little community has taken a big turn for the worse.
You know how all the gossip shows on TV have their regulars they can count on. When you've got a stable of players like Britney, Paris, Brangelina, TomKat, Jennifer Aniston, you can always be sure that there's going to be something worth talking about everyday!
Britney shows up with no underwear, she gets drunk, shaves her head, goes into rehab, and loses her children. And if she's not active one day, Lindsay Lohan is going to give you something for sure.
Well, I used to have my stable too. And I was happy. But now the horses seem to be all out of the barn and I feel let down. By you!
Earlier this year, a day couldn't go by without something funny happening to Don JGo. Now, all he talks about is the new Jobster application on The Facebook. And, to tell you the truth, that's not interesting at all! At least not for this show!
Workfarce? He was hot for a while, too, fighting with Don JGo and Papa John. But then Mr X called his boss and knocked him right out of the ballpark.
And speaking of Papa John, that guy stimulated so much hatred when he took over Recruiting.com, it was heaven; but now that's gone too. And even JayDee was fun for a while, too. He had that battle with Don JGo over Recruitingblogs.com. But it was quickly resolved. They kissed and made up and not much has happened since.
What was the big news in the last few weeks? Harry Joiner got kicked off The Facebook. And Sourcecon scheduled its convention on the Rosh Hashanah. You might have thought that last one might have started some kind of holy war but, no, instead we got the Joe Lieberman of the Recruitosphere explaining it away as an oversight. And that's it.
So, I'm wondering. Whats with this community? No one's acting up. No one's getting fired. And I don't know how much longer we're going to last. Because, if people don't get their basic need for excitement met here they're going to start going somewhere else. So really, friends, the party might be over.
But, in the meantime, you can still find someone trying to stir up the pot. That's right, I'm talking about yours truly. Because I'm still The Recruiting Animal and, live from Toronto, this is still The Recruiting Animal Show!!!
If You Knew Suzy
Now, today, our guest is a woman who literally swims with the sharks. I'm not kidding. She's all of five foot four and this guy she was working with sent her underwater to test a shark repellent that didn't work. And then she married him! I think they made a movie about that. It's called "Sleeping With The Enemy".
She's no ordinary babe, that's for sure. She's been in the movie business, the record business, the shark business, and now she's a not so secret investigator in the world of competitive intelligence. Suzy Tonini, come on down!
Recruiting Diversity Online
Animal: Suzy, tell us about some of your tough searches.
Suzy Tonini: Well, when I first started I was asked to find a C-Level candidate that had to be Hispanic or African-American.
Animal: Who's phone is going? Come on, this is a show here! Suzy, you have to shout over the phone. Sorry, what did you do?
Suzy Tonini: I emailed all of the diversity recruiters I could find on ERE and asked them for advice.
Animal: So what did they tell you to do?
Suzy Tonini: Well, I learned that Hispanics are in the southwest and Florida
Animal: Gee, that's a big surprise, eh?
Suzy Tonini No, but they told me to search there instead of, for instance, New York.
Animal: What else?
Suzy Tonini I learned to type phrases like "she said" into the search engines. That's going to render someone who has been covered at a trade show or conference who is a female.
Animal: Aren't you going to get a lot of garbage, as well?
Suzy Tonini: I had another set of keywords, too.
Animal: Did you have to ask people what their complexion looked like?
Suzy Tonini: No
Animal: How did you know if you are on the right track?
Suzy Tonini: You gather that from information in their profiles. For instance, if someone belongs to an association like the National Association of Black Accountants.
Animal: So, if I'm a job-hunter and I want someone to be able to identify me, I should join The Association of Recruiting Call-In Radio Hosts, right?
Suzy Tonini: Maybe

The Value of Internet Sourcing Technology
Animal: Amybeth told us that technology can really speed up the process by automating something that she would do on Google herself. Do you agree with that?
Suzy Tonini: Yes. There are some tools that do help out immensely if you have a lot of searches and you don't have a lot of time.
Animal: The key is not that they can find more people than you can on your own but that they will do a lot of the tedious, heavy-lifting for you, is that it?
Suzy Tonini: Yes. You can do some overnight searches and the next morning you can have some results in your inbox.
Animal: Amybeth, do you agree with her on that?
Amybeth Hale: Yes I do
Harry Joiner: The learning curve on some of these products is very high, do you agree?
Suzy Tonini: Yes.
Amybeth Hale: It takes time to learn it. If you don't take the time to learn it, it's going to be useless to you but if you take the time to learn it it's a very valuable thing.

A Perfect Internet Sourcing Search
Suzy Tonini: My favourite searches are the ones that are almost effortless. For example, I find someone on LinkedIn, I send them a networking query, they respond favourably, I send them on to the recruiter . She gets a hold of him and they schedule a meeting all within fifteen minutes.

Wow- talk about the 10,000 ft. view on things (Americanism)- you sure know how to condense things ;-)- but I suggest listening to the full interview to get the real low-down (more Americanisms). Thanks Animal!!
